How to Support Your Pet’s Mobility at Home: Insights from Our Mobility Clinic with Chloe-Jane RVN

Posted on 25 June 2024

When it comes to enhancing your pet’s mobility, especially for those who struggle with conditions like osteoarthritis, a comprehensive approach involving home adaptations, therapies, and diet changes can make a significant difference. Here are some strategies that have shown great success in improving the quality of life for pets with mobility issues.

Home Adaptations for Improved Mobility

A simple yet effective starting point is to assess the flooring in your home. Chloe-Jane explains that pets with mobility challenges can find it difficult to navigate smooth surfaces such as hardwood, laminate, or tiled flooring. Implementing non-slip carpets or rugs, or creating a pathway with these materials, can drastically reduce the risk of slipping. This not only aids in safer movement throughout the house but can also prevent the discomfort and fear associated with slipping on hard surfaces.

Laser Therapy: A Light Toward Recovery

An innovation in pet rehabilitation is laser therapy, which differs significantly from the lasers you might be familiar with from James Bond films. Therapeutic laser therapy utilizes high power light waves to stimulate blood flow to targeted areas. For pets facing hip issues or osteoarthritis, directing this increased circulation to the hips can foster a better delivery of oxygen and nutrients, aiding in pain relief and functional improvement.

Exploring Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy

Beyond laser therapy, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy present as viable avenues to further support your pet’s mobility. These therapies offer additional methods to alleviate pain, strengthen muscles, and improve range of motion, potentially delaying the progression of conditions like osteoarthritis.

Medications and Pain Management

Following a holistic examination of non-invasive therapies, it may be beneficial to consider medication as part of your pet’s comprehensive care plan. Monthly pain relief treatments specifically designed for osteoarthritis can be discussed, with the possibility of adjusting pain medications to find the most effective regimen for your pet.
The Pet Health club has benefits such as inclusive vet appointments which means that you can book an appointment with your Veterinary surgeon to discuss such medications.

The Role of Diet in Mobility

Diet plays a crucial role in managing and improving your pet’s mobility. Incorporating a mobility-specific diet or supplements into your pet’s routine can provide the necessary oils and essential amino acids needed for healthy movement and joint function. Many pet owners have observed noticeable improvements in their pets’ mobility and comfort levels when switching to a diet formulated to support joint health.

By combining home modifications with a mix of innovative therapies, pain management strategies, and dietary adjustments, pet owners can significantly enhance their pets’ quality of life. Our mobility clinic is dedicated to exploring all avenues to support your pet’s health and happiness, ensuring every step is as easy and pain-free as possible.
