Heading off on a summer camping trip with your dog? Our team has put together recommendations to help you both have a safe and fun adventure!
Before you go:
- Make sure vaccinations and parasite protection (especially for ticks) are up to date. Join the pet health club to have these included.
- Check your pet’s microchip details and ensure they wear an ID tag.
Packing essentials:
- Fresh water and portable bowls. The foldable ones are perfect for saving space.
- Their regular food
- Bedding or a familiar blanket
- Lead and harness
- Poo bags (and if you run short, nappy bags work just as well!)
- A towel or drying coat for wet walks (we are in the UK after all)
- A pet first aid kit
At the campsite:
- Choose pet-friendly sites and keep your dog on a lead. For extra freedom, screw-in hooks for long leads are brilliant to secure your dog safely while giving them room to explore.
- To help your dog relax at night, try playing noise-cancelling or calming dog music on your phone as it can mask sounds from other campers and reduce barking.
- Watch out for BBQ leftovers and campfire hazards.
- Stick to shaded walks and avoid over-exertion in the heat.
