Important update to our Out of Hours service

From Friday 3rd – Monday 6th October, our out of hours service will be temporarily moving to Pennard Vets Tonbridge, while essential maintenance work takes place at our Sevenoaks practice.

Here’s what this means:

  • From Friday evening, our OOH team will be based at Tonbridge until Monday morning.
  • In-patients will be safely transferred to Tonbridge on Friday afternoon, and back to Sevenoaks on Monday morning.
  • Saturday daytime consults will run as normal at both practices.
  • Normal OOH service will be available from Tonbridge across the weekend.

Thank you for your understanding!

From,
All the team at Pennard Vets

Keep Your Pets Occupied

Posted on 1 May 2021
Keep Your Pets Occupied
  • Scatter Feeding – this involves tipping your pets biscuits on the floor or hiding it in various areas for them to find. It will keep them busy hunting for that last biscuit and they will use their sense of smell.
  • Food Balls/Puzzle Toys – there are lots of balls and toys on the market which are designed for biscuits, treats and other things such as vegetables and peanut butter.
  • Homemade Toilet Roll Feeder – works best for cats. These can be made at home out of the cardboard on the inside of the toilet roll, collect them and glue them into a pyramid shape, place on the floor and drop some biscuits in.
  • Youtube – has some great videos to keep dogs entertained such as a 1.5 hour video of squirrels running in and out of shot.
  • Homemade Egg Box – sprinkle food into the bottom of the egg box and fill with newspaper, if your pet is a fan of games you can shut the egg box too to make it harder.
  • Rabbit Homemade Feeder – you can punch holes in a toilet roll inner and stuff with all your rabbits favourite treats and vegetables.
  • Hiding Toys – hiding toys around the house can be another way of keeping your pet busy and even better if you can find toys that they can play with on their own such as leaving cat wands tied to a chair so the tassels hang down for your cat to play with.
  • Comfort /Cuddle Breaks – with a lot of us working from home it can be really stressful to be outside of your normal routine and we know that spending some time stroking your pet can vastly improve your mood and reduce your blood pressure. It might be worth planning a few cuddle breaks into your day.
  • App-solute fun – there are some brilliant pet-based apps that can keep your furry friend entertained such as a fish tank simulator for cats.
  • Indoor Obstacle Course – get creative with what you have.
  • Training – some training tasks are a good way to keep your dog thinking, so now might be the time to invest 10mins each day in teaching them a new trick.
  • Small Furries – you can add a cardboard castle (made from recyclable materials) to their enclosure or revamp their living space.
  • It’s all about boxes – cats love to hide and play in cardboard boxes especially if they contain newspaper.
  • Digging Boxes – hide some of your pets favourite treats/toys in a box of shredded paper for them to find.
  • Grooming – this is a great way to bond with your pet and keep them looking smart.
  • Chews – various chews can be a great boredom breaker for your dog and there are various dog safe vegetables that can keep them happy too!
  • Shell Game – this can be played with both dogs and cats, you have 3 paper cups and hide a treat under one of them. You can then slide the cups around and your pet can find where the treat is.
  • Stuffed Kong’s – Stuffing your dog’s Kong with different foods each day gives your pet variety and you can even freeze the Kong overnight to make it more challenging for your pup. Some good fillers are:
    • Pet safe peanut butter
    • Kong stuffing
    • Yoghurt
    • Canned dog food
    • Kibble
    • Dog treats
    • Carrot
    • Broccoli
